Life As a Waking Dream
Published in Paperback by Riverhead Books (July, 1997)
Authors: Diane Kennedy Pike and Diane Pike-Kennedy
Average review score:

Close but not quite "there"
The author of this book had a very interresting idea, which triggered me to read the book. Though most everything she states is a "true" observation, I find her explainations to be highly vivid and uneducated in the field of conciousness. There are psychological terms and explainations on human behavior that she referrs to as a "waking dream"; and she doesn't go into great depth on it because she clearly is uninformed. I would recommend sticking to more psychological information from medically certified authors. This is where you'll truly get a chance to understand the unconcious self.

Seeing your life through new eyes
This author really got me to sit up and take notice with this thought-provoking topic. The whole notion of taking the unusual and interesting happenings of your life and interpreting them as you would a dream is fascinating. The book is filled with real life examples and interpretations, so that you can see immediately how this may be of use to you in your own life.

Ms. Kennedy conveys the information in an entertaining and informative manner, and effectively gets you to see how each incident of our lives, contains so much valuable information about you. I think this is definitely a book for the new millenium. One thing is certain, you'll never again be able to look at your life in the same way after having read this book.

One-on-One Training : How to Effectively Train One Person at a Time
Published in Paperback by Jossey-Bass/Pfeiffer (January, 2000)
Authors: Bob Pike, Lynn Solem, and Dave Arch
Average review score:

Not impressed!
This book is not worth the money you spend on it. Out of twenty inputs, there are only two training ideas that are worth any time reviewing. And, the last twenty pages have one question per page to use as icebreakers. You could search the web and find more effective training techniques.

Lots of good ideas
I was so lucky to see Lynn train one time. She just blew me away. The training world will miss her. Don't miss this book if you do any one on one. Clear, concise and readable

Artists in Crime: An Illustrated Survey of Crime Fiction First Edition Dustwrappers, 1920-1970
Published in Hardcover by Scolar Pr (November, 1995)
Authors: John Cooper and B. A. Pike
Average review score:

too broad in scope
by attempting to be everything to everyone, this book missed the mark. although useful in a few cases, the illustrations were mostly black and white, and the author list too long to provide good specifics. since most collectors choose to focus on a handful of writers this book may not suffice for them. As a general book, i think the cooper and pike book - collectors guide to detective fiction - is far superior.

Eatontown & Fort Monmouth, NJ
Published in Paperback by Arcadia Tempus Publishing Group, Inc. (01 September, 1995)
Authors: Helen-Chantal Pike and Glenn D. Vogel
Average review score:

Very interesting history of New Jersey towns
Having hailed from this part of New Jersey, I was very interested in learning of its history and development. The book was very informative, but I wish it had contained even more information, particularly about Fort Monmouth. All-in-all, I felt it was very well done.

Hymns to the Gods and Other Poems
Published in Paperback by Kessinger Publishing Company (February, 1998)
Author: Albert Pike
Average review score:

Heavy poetry; tedious, but with many rewards
This work features hymns which Pike authored to ancient pagan gods and goddesses such as Ares, Hermes, Apollo, Demeter and Hera. The style is, of course, Victorian, which makes the poetry seem very heavy and at first inaccessible. However, in the right mindset one can derive much of value from Pike's treatments. His hymns are reminiscent of the ancient Orphic and Homeric hymns, and were certainly influenced by them. Also included are other poems. Some are tritely sentimental to modern eyes; others are sublime. My favorite is "The Struggle for Freedom," which powerfully represents Pike's dream of global democracy and liberty. Reading it, I felt some of my modern "realistic cynicism" falling away and was transported into those days when the contradictions sometimes inherent in the West's pursuit of liberty did not seem to compromise its core. Encountering that undefiled ideal of Freedom, so real to Pike, helps us to understand not only his motivations as a soldier and public figure, but his private activity as a leading creative star in the Masonic firmament.

My Opinion
Well, i must say, that this wasn't one of his best works. Beleive me. i've read just about all of his books, and although most of them would obtain a good 5 stars, i'm only giving this 3. Honestly, you'd think he could have a little bit better, yo!

Multihull Cruising Fundamentals: The Official American Sailing Association Guide to Cruising Multihulls
Published in Paperback by International Marine/Ragged Mountain Press (01 August, 1997)
Authors: Rick White, Harry Munns, Kevin Allen Pike, and American Sailing Association
Average review score:

Too fundamental, better choices out there.
This book was a complete let down for me. A very shallow and thin book with not a lot of useful information in it. It is simply too watered down and should be renamed "beginers basics for learning to sail your folding trimaran" rather than trying to pretend it tackles the much deeper subjects of cruising. For someone looking to learn the basics I would suggest a better combination of reading Royce's Sailing Illustrated, and then take a look at The Cruising Multihull by Chris White. You will get a lot more useful information both on the beginner and advanced end from that combination than this very weak book gives.

Experienced multihull fan review
This book is intended for people who know very little about sailing, and even less about multihulls.

If you have sailing and multihull experience this book is not for you.

Get this!
At last an intelligible multihull book that you can read & understand almost instantly . Full of practical knowledge and clearly written - you don't need to be a 5-10 yrs skipper or have a PhD in astrophysics to understand this lucid book. There are plenty of clear diagrams, safety aspects are well covered but the authors remain enthusiastic and balanced re multi vs monohull. Thouroughly recommended as an introductory text and for existing catamaran owners!

A Love to Die for
Published in Mass Market Paperback by B E T Books (March, 2000)
Author: Patricia Springer
Average review score:

An Interesting book!
This book was good, but I think they could have left out the pictures of Colleens body. I liked the way it was written. It was like a real story, not just a bunch of facts. I cant believe Christa Pike could do something so terrible, and I have no sympathy for her. She obviously has no remorse for what she did, and I hope she is put to death. Having a bad childhood is no excuse for killing someone, espically in such a horrible way.

very good
thats my opinion. I like the style of Miss Springer.
I was very shocked about the viscious muder by the 3 who committed it.
P Springer does know how to tell a story. I could not lay this book aside. Its always nice to read the murderers get their punishment so me too could not believe the "luck" Peterson had. She was the one who told Pike to go for the kill (not that Pike needed that)I have to say i like it better when you hear more of someone's background and the writer did have some parts about that. But i wanted to know more about what had happened the months Colleen and Pike spent together. Why did Pike think colleen was after her boyfriend? groetjes Marlene

Highly recommended
This is a heartbreaking account of how teenage jealousy cost one beautiful innocent girl her life. Christa Pike and her boyfriend worshipped Satan and carved pentagrams on the dying Colleen Slemmer. I found this book strong and realistic (frighteningly so) I do warn you that there are pictures of Colleen's body and skull (made me queasy)

This book was well-written and I look forward to more by Ms. Springer. Pick it up, you won't regret it.

Mallory Pike, Number One Fan (Baby-Sitters Club, 80)
Published in Paperback by Apple (November, 1994)
Author: Ann Matthews Martin
Average review score:

I agree with the other two readers...
In this book, Mallory meets her favorite author, who writes generally uplifting books about a happy family. When Mallory finds out that the author (sorry, I forget her name) actually had an unhappy childhood, she accuses the author of lying in her books, which are meant to be fiction. Mallory should have understood that fiction can be sincerely written by an author without actually being based on the exact events of their life.

This book just didn't have enough of a plot. There was very little action, and Mallory seemed to be a lot more disturbed by the fact that the author's books weren't based on her own childhood than a real person would. This idea could have been used as part of a much more complex storyline, but not as a "plot" on its own.

What a brat!!
Mallory Pike,a member of the Babysitters' Club,is really excited to meet her favourite author. She is even hired as her assistant! But when spoiled Mal finds out that said author(Henrietta somebody or something) had a difficult childhood,Mallory decides she doesn't like her anymore and even after the writer's kindness toward her,Mallory leaves her a nasty note and refuses to see her again.Typical of one of the Babysitters.

Mallory Pike, No.1 Fan.
Mallory Pike, No. 1 Fan was the 80th installment in the babysiters club books and it was easily as good as the other 79. Mallory Pike has to research her chosen career in an imaginative way for a school essay. She has no problem finding her career, but ideas for learning something in an imaginative way don't come easy. After reading a playscript she decides to write a play to help her along with the achievment of doing something and seeing it acted out by the Kids can do anything club ( Kids club. ) But her teacher refuses that proposal and she decides to add to it - compare her expierience with the great write, Henrietta Hayes. But then Mallory finds things out about Mrs. hayes which make her question Henrietta about being a great writer? But will things turn out right for poor Mallory? To find out, read the book.
